Industrial Action - 30 November 2011
Published: 23/11/2011 14:22:00 | Category: CalendarWe have been informed by ATL, NASUWT, NUT, Unison, Unite and GMB that they intend to take industrial action in the form of a strike on 30 November 2011. This action is not against Carre’s Grammar School itself, but is part of national industrial action organised by these trades unions about changes to the pension schemes of their members. The unions are currently in negotiation with the government over the issues, and it may be that the planned strike is called off.
There is no requirement on unions to inform us of which members of staff will take action, and it may be that they will not know themselves as there is no obligation on members of unions to obey a strike call. Neither the Governing Body nor the Headteacher is legally allowed to close the school ‘in sympathy’ with the strike and we will not do so on those grounds. It is unlikely that all lessons will be normal and there may have to be sessions of private study supervised by a member of staff, so students should bring work with them and/or appropriate reading material. If action is prolonged, we will endeavour to protect the education of those on examination courses. The Year 11 Mock examinations will not be affected on 30 November, and all Year 11 students must come into school as normal on that day, with revision materials and prepared to take the exams.
We may not know until very late precisely how many staff will be available to work, or what is the outcome of the negotiations, so the decision to close may have to be taken at the last minute. Every effort will be made to avoid this, but should it be the case, we shall give notice at the latest by the day before, Tuesday 29 November.
We shall use the website and text messaging to keep parents informed, and your son/daughter will be given a letter to confirm any decision made.
