Headteacher Foreword
As we approach the end of the first term of the academic year, I would like to take a moment to reflect on what has been an excellent start. It has been a real pleasure to see our new students settle in so well—particularly those in Years 7 and 12. They have embraced the challenges and opportunities of their new environment with enthusiasm and maturity. This is especially commendable for our younger students, who have made the significant transition from the familiarity of primary school to the new routines and expectations of secondary education.
If you were a parent of a child at the school last year you will have been invited to be part of our consultation regarding the merger of the two Sleaford Grammar Schools with the Community Inclusive Trust (CIT). That merger, between The Robert Carre Trust and CIT, officially happened on 1 October. CIT will work in collaboration with our existing staff to maintain all that is outstanding about Carre’s Grammar School whilst providing even more opportunities for all our young people.
This newsletter highlights that this term has been busy with activity and a strong sense of community. Kindness Week reminded us of the power of compassion and the importance of looking out for one another. The European Day of Languages Bake Off brought creativity and delicious treats to the forefront, showcasing the talents of both students and staff (and parents!).
We are pleased to share more about the role of our Governors, helping everyone better understand the vital part they play in shaping the school’s direction.
The launch of the Maths Circle has sparked curiosity and deeper thinking among our keen mathematicians, while the Warhammer Club has provided a fantastic outlet for strategic thinking and imaginative play.
Safety remains a priority. Our Young Passenger Awareness initiative has helped raise awareness about staying safe while travelling.
We were also honoured to welcome the Army, whose visit inspired many students and offered valuable insights into leadership and service.
You will also read about the success of our students on the sporting front, most notably Barnaby Newman who was part of a Great Britain Team that achieved a gold medal in the recent international angling tournament.
Thank you to all staff, students, and families for your continued support and commitment. I wish everyone a restful and enjoyable break—and I look forward to seeing you all refreshed and ready for Term 2 on Monday 3 November.

Now that we are part of the Community Inclusive Trust, the Governors have taken on a new name: 'Local School Board', but their role stays essentially the same, being the eyes and ears for the Trust, supporting and challenging the school leadership and working with the school and the Trust for the best interests of the school and its students. The role includes visiting the school and meeting with staff and students to gather assurances on behalf of the LSB, which will then be passed up to the Trust Board.
We are delighted to announce that two new Governors are joining the LSB this term, David Steels as a new Community Governor and Amy Leader as a new Parent Governor, following the recent election. We welcome David and Amy and look forward to working with them alongside the other Governors.

For the last week of Year 12, I undertook work experience at the Morgan Motor Company in Malvern, Worcestershire.
I started in the ‘Production Stores’, where I had to sort components, so they could be distributed to the correct department. I then moved on to connecting the air-cooling systems, radiators and exhaust to the aluminium chassis and the BMW six-cylinder engine in the ‘Chassis Shop’.
Next, I was cutting mats and making the gloveboxes for the limited-edition Midsummer model in the ‘Trim Shop’. On the final day I was working on an ash (sourced from Lincolnshire) frame, in the ‘Wood Shop’, for a vehicle which had been sold to a client in America.
The highlight of my work experience was the passenger ride I had around the streets of Malvern – particularly when the Plus Four model was put in Sport Plus mode!
Everyone at Morgan spoke about their experiences both before, and during their time at the company. I thoroughly enjoyed my four days’ work experience, which provided me with an invaluable insight into the automotive industry!

Axiom Maths Circles Launch with Year 7
This term, the Mathematics Department is delighted to have begun working with a group of Year 7 students who are taking part in Axiom’s Maths Circles — a unique and inspiring programme designed to deepen mathematical thinking and nurture a genuine love of the subject.
The Axiom Maths Circles are weekly sessions where students:
- Tackle challenging problems through a structured curriculum that goes beyond the National Curriculum, exploring fascinating and advanced topics rarely encountered in school.
- Learn resilience by getting “stuck” and then “unstuck,” developing the perseverance and problem-solving skills that make success even more rewarding.
- Experience flow—there are no tests or pressures, just the joy of getting lost in mathematical thinking.
- Join a mathematical community that values curiosity, creativity, and the beauty of mathematics.
The programme runs throughout the school year and forms part of a five-year journey for our young mathematicians. Over time, it aims to strengthen their mathematical understanding, inspire confidence, and encourage them to pursue future studies and careers in mathematics or fields where strong mathematical skills are highly valued.
This is the first year we have introduced the Axiom Maths Circles at Carre’s Grammar School, and we are thrilled to partner with Axiom to deliver their excellent programme. Other schools in the region have already implemented it with great success, and feedback from students and teachers alike has been outstanding.
We are excited to see how our pupils grow through this opportunity—developing not only their mathematical ability but also their enjoyment and appreciation of the subject.

SparxMaths in Key Stage 3
Following a successful trial last year with our Year 7, Year 8, and selected Year 9 students, our mathematics department has invested in SparxMaths for all Key Stage 3 mathematics classes.
SparxMaths is an innovative online platform providing personalised, adaptive homework. The system tailors questions to each student’s ability over time—offering additional challenge for those excelling while supporting others with accessible questions to build confidence and understanding. The tasks assigned to students follow our curriculum and provide valuable practice to consolidate and develop fluency in essential skills taught. Students can also complete additional work through XP challenges and targeted exercises, and students have been keen to do so to ensure they top the league table in their class.
To maintain classroom practice, students are still expected to complete their working out in their school exercise books, ensuring their reasoning is fully recorded and visible to teachers.
We have used the Year 7 Baseline assessments to inform SparxMaths, allowing students to receive targeted questions in areas identified for improvement. Homework is set weekly and due seven days later, helping students develop strong study routines. Feedback from last year’s trial was overwhelmingly positive, demonstrating SparxMaths supports consistent practice, personalised learning, and measurable progress

UKMT Senior Maths Challenge
This year we entered a record number of students in the Senior Maths Challenge. On Thursday 9 October, forty of our students took part in this prestigious competition, marking a significant increase in participation at Key Stage 5.
The Senior Maths Challenge is no ordinary test – it’s a real opportunity for students to stretch their mathematical skills and problem-solving abilities. Participants tackle intriguing and challenging questions that go beyond the usual classroom exercises, allowing them to explore creative and logical approaches to mathematics.

We are incredibly proud of all our students for taking on this challenge with enthusiasm and determination, and we look forward to celebrating their achievements in the coming weeks. Young Passenger Awareness
As part of the Personal Development Curriculum, Year 11 students were visited by Natascha Farmery from Lincolnshire’s ‘Stay Safe’ partnership for a session related to ‘Young Passenger Awareness.’ The hard-hitting session focused upon educating the students about safe road behaviour, such as consistently wearing seat belts, understanding the dangers of being a passenger in a vehicle driven by a new or inexperienced driver, and knowing how to make safe decisions to avoid risky situations. The session also highlighted the dangers and obstacles that young drivers face when first driving, especially with other young people in the car. The footage that was used as part of the session was truly thought provoking and offered Year 11s the opportunity to reflect upon the responsibilities that all drivers have when driving for the first time.

Kindness Week 6 - 10 October
|
|

At the beginning of Kindness Week, each student received a sign-up sheet. On this they recorded the events/activities/acts of kindness they had been involved in. Each entry was then signed by a member of staff, so they could earn positive points for their efforts.








Students even attended the William Alvey School to talk to their pupils about their experience of secondary school.

Kindness Week raised £915.87 for Childline.

Year 13 English Lit Trip to The Globe to see Twelfth Night
As Twelfth Night is a set exam text, this trip offered a valuable opportunity for students to experience a live performance of the play. Particularly relevant is the second section of the Shakespeare exam, which focuses on exploring different interpretations.
To enrich this understanding, the students also attended a free post-show talk by the Creative Cast, which offered insights into the production's unique interpretation.

A large group of Year 7s have been making and painting models in the Warhammer Club this term.
Warhammer Club
This term the Warhammer Club has got off to a great start. Over 40 students have been attending each Tuesday Break 2 in Room 26 with each one getting two free models from the Games Workshop Age of Sigmar or Warhammer 40,000 range of miniatures. They then used a range of paints and brushes to start painting their Orks, Space Marines, Necrons and Stormcast warriors in whatever style they wanted. The top five models can be seen here and a big congratulations to each student for putting in the effort this term to get them finished.
Next term the focus will be on using the newly painted miniatures in battles against each other, using dice and tape measures to simulate a fantasy or sci-fi battlefield.

They have won gold over a two day competition.

Otis, Year 7, had a great end to the season finishing 5th over all in the UKC. He's in the 11-13 years category and was 11 in Augus,t so will be in the same category for at least another year.
There was a presentation and prizes for the top five, so Otis was proud to be part of that.
He will still race and test over the winter in preparation for the British Champs next year.

We hold a lost property amnesty at the end of every term. Any unnamed and/or unclaimed items following the amnesty will be donated to charity, put into our 'pre-loved' shop, or thrown away.

A polite reminder that the front car park should not be used to drop students off in the morning or at the end of the school day. This is for safety reasons due to the number of students and staff arriving/leaving the site.
