Duke of Edinburgh Award Training Day

A reminder to all Year 9 DofE students about the face to face DofE training to be held on Saturday 29 January 2022 at Kesteven and Sleaford High School.

Year 9 Bronze - Duke of Edinburgh Expedition Section - Classroom Training Day

Training for the Expedition section of Bronze DofE has begun.  I am setting assignments on Teams for your son via his school Teams account with weekly material and tasks.  The first of these went out on 20 November followed by another this week.  Please encourage your son to check his school account and eDofE regularly.  Work will be set and expected in response to this material to confirm your son has completed the tasks and understood the material.

Consolidation of this electronic material will be completed on the Training Day scheduled to be held in the school main hall at KSHS on:

Saturday 29 January 2022 for CGS Year 9 students

Training will include: Maps skills; Route planning and Route card writing; the DofE Expedition assessment criteria; an introduction to packing and wearing a Rucksack; personal Kit; Menus and nutrition, along with First Aid.

I ask that your son is at KSHS reception to sign in by no later than 0900hrs on the date stated above.  Please ensure he has with him a notepad, pen and lunch and drinks for the day.  A personal compass will be issued to your son on this day along with a loaned school rucksack.

Students will not be allowed to leave school grounds during this training day. Appropriate clothing is encouraged, including walking boots and waterproof coat.  We will be finished by no later than 1630hrs.

It is essential that all training is completed prior to the expedition and non-completion of the tasks set and/or non-attendance at this training day will exclude them from the expeditions.

Your son should have set up his eDofE account and if so will have already received his DofE pack through the post.  He should have set up his timescales and activity planners for his three sections.  (If I can see and approve planners before he embarks on the section it will save any confusion at the end if this activity turns out to be unsuitable; remember that parents/family members cannot assess their child).  I hope that your son is busy attending/completing his Volunteering, Physical and Skills activities. Anything he has been doing since 1 June 2021 will count as he can backdate the start date in eDofE.  Evidence should be uploaded to his eDofE account regularly; the mobile site www.m.edofe.org may make adding evidence easier for him as he can take photos on his phone to upload.

A couple of DofE drop-in clinics will be held in Classroom 42 at Carre’s Grammar School's Northgate Sports Hall on Saturday 12 February and Saturday 12 March (letters to follow) to enable the groups to meet up and plan route cards, menus, etc for the expedition.  This drop in also enables the students to have assistance in updating their eDofE accounts in a focussed environment.  Parents are also welcome to ask questions or clarify any details for DofE.

Kind regards.
